Pomona Arts District Vintage Boutique Celebrates 2 Years in Business, Despite Retail Apocalypse

POMONA, AUGUST 2, 2017 -- As department stores file for bankruptcy and shutter their doors, Debutante Clothing, a vintage clothing boutique, celebrates it’s 2nd year in business in the eclectic Downtown Pomona Arts Colony.  Owner, Sandra Mendoza, attributes the shop’s growth in a shaky retail economy to providing one of a kind style and seamless in-store and social media experience.

Instagram and Yelp have been crucial to business growth as many people don’t know about some of the shops and restaurants in the Downtown Pomona area. “I was nervous about opening up a shop. Especially vintage. I had only sold online and at Los Angeles area pop ups. But I loved the vibe in Downtown Pomona and felt it was worth taking a risk. ”

Located in a 1910 historic building, Debutante Clothing offers vintage and retro clothing from the 1940 to the 1990s. Knowing experiences, not just stuff, are important to vintage seeking customers, Mendoza offers events and classes such as earring making in the shop,

Most small retailers do not make it past their 3rd birthday. Debutante Clothing is on track to surpassing that statistic and staying in the downtown area. “I want to grow with this amazing historic neighborhood.”
